Liebster Award!

Liebster Award

I hit the jackpot this week!  I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by 3 of my favourite bloggers!  Thanks so much Rakhi (Little Bliss Book), Anshulika (Road To Beauty), and Irina (Makeup Amour)!  “Liebster” is a German word that means “beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.”  This award is given to blogs with under 200 followers and is an interesting way to be seen and to discover new blogs.

How It Works:

  1. Link back the person who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you.
  3. Pick 10 bloggers to be nominated for the award with under 200 followers.
  4. Come up with 10 questions of your own for your nominees to answer.
  5. Go to their blogs and notify your nominees.

Q & A:

  • To avoid a lengthy post of 30 questions, I will answer the first 3 questions from each blogger who nominated me.

1)  If you could follow your bliss what would it be and why?

I would love to work with the big cats in Africa in some way, maybe helping to raise orphaned cubs.  Why?  They are SO cute!!!

2)  What do you notice/like first on a person, eyes or smile?

Eyes – they are the window to the soul.

3)  What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate of course!  Actually, I don’t feel that guilty eating it.

4)  Describe your blog in three words.

Colourful, girly, and fun to write.

5)  Name the book you have read recently.

The Bible.

6)  What makes you happy?

Spending time in nature with my husband.

7)  Do you tend to straighten more or curl your hair more?

My hair is naturally straight, so I love to play with adding curls to it to change up my look.

8)  What are one of your habits that you have to break?

Spending too much time on my computer!   🙂

9)  How do you brainstorm your blog post ideas?

Several ways – products I’ve been wanting to try, things I’m loving at the moment, recent experiences I’ve had, things I think could be beneficial for others to read, and sharing a good sale.

Here are the blogs I have nominated for this award (in no particular order):

Nominees, here are your questions:

  1. If you weren’t blogging right now, what would you be doing instead?
  2. Starbucks or Tim Hortons?
  3. What do you hope to be doing with your blog in one year from now?
  4. If you were stranded on a desert island with one person, who would you want it to be?
  5. If you couldn’t have a cell phone or a computer for one year, which one would you choose to keep and why?
  6. Why did you start blogging?
  7. What do you feel passionate about?
  8. What gives you joy?
  9. If you could be an animal, what would it be and why?
  10. Growing old gracefully in a rocking chair on the porch with your partner, or fighting aging every step of the way?

Hope you all have fun!  Looking forward to reading your answers!   🙂

15 Deserving Blogger Nominations (in no particular order):

7 Interesting Things About Me:

  1. I got married 10 months ago.
  2. Sometimes I like being with my cats more than people.  Anybody else relate to that?
  3. I love dragonflies & peacocks (although both sort of scare me for some reason).
  4. I wrote a screenplay once.  It was an amazing creative experience, even though nothing tangible ever came from it.
  5. I like growing roses – I could spend hours tending them.
  6. Karaoke freaks me out because I can’t sing worth beans!  I’m better as a backup dancer.
  7. I didn’t realize that I used to say “eh?” a lot until I lived in the United States for 8 years.  I trained myself out of this Canadianism when it was pointed out to me.   🙂

Thanks again to Tams and Irena for nominating me for this award!  Now I look forward to reading interesting things about the 15 fabulous bloggers I nominated.

One Last Summer Fling With Orange!

I have been in love with the colour orange this summer.  Now that we’re halfway through August and the days are getting shorter, I’m already starting to feel bummed about having to put my bright orange summer pieces away in the fall.  I’ve enjoyed sporting orange in my makeup, clothing, and accessories, such as this free Glytone beach bag I got with my order from Beauty Store Depot.

  • Enter orange in the blue search box on the upper right of my blog for additional posts.

Ooops!  Looks like I’ve disturbed the princess from her afternoon nap on the deck.

Wearing orange has perked up my mood and energy, helping me hike up to the summit of Mt. Thom in the summer afternoon heat in this ruffle tank top from Cleo.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…  Whew!  The view was worth it!

My wonderful husband brought me home a beautiful bouquet of flowers with some orange Gerbera daisies for our 10-month anniversary (woo hoo!).  I grow Gerbera daisies every summer, but these ones are spectacular!

Yes, orange has been good to me this summer.  I’m going to finish off summer with a bang, wearing orange, orange, and more orange!

What colour are you going to miss when summer is over?

Marc Anthony’s Oil of Morocco Collection – Argan Oil Treatment, Shampoo, & Conditioner

“You haven’t tried Argan oil?!” my cousin said as she gasped, clutched her chest, and looked at me in utter shock and disbelief. Apparently I’ve been slow to jump on this latest bandwagon. I guess I hadn’t noticed because I was still delighting in my collection of John Frieda Luxurious Volume hair products – they work for me and they come in such pretty blue packaging (to be reviewed in an upcoming post).

But the seed was now planted, so when I stumbled upon a trio of Marc Anthony Argan oil products at Costco for $17.99, I decided to cheat on John Frieda and give Marc Anthony a try (I sorta felt a bit like Seinfeld). It came in nice blue packaging too, although not as eye catching as John Frieda. The box promises stronger, shinier, healthier looking hair. All three products are sulfate free and reportedly combat damage, breakage, dryness, dullness, and frizz.

What is Argan oil anyway?

Here’s what Marc Anthony’s website has to say:

  • “We often look to beauty secrets of the past as inspiration for now. One of the greatest ancestral beauty secrets comes from Morocco – Argan Oil. It is really a ‘super oil’ because it has so many benefits – strengthening, moisturizing, shine, damage relief, and the list goes on. When you buy Argan Oil for your hair you’re getting one of the best natural resources for healthy looking hair.” – Marc Anthony Stylist Team
  • Argan Oil – the foundation for the Oil of Morocco collection. This powerful Moroccan oil, with an added boost of strengthening Keratin, has been infused into each product to create a full system for high moisture and unbeatable strength. It starts with your wash to rid hair of impurities while gently moisturizing; then to your condition for super hydration, shine and restoration. Finally a daily lightweight oil treatment to impart strength, add shine and control frizz.

Shampoo (1 L/33.8 fluid oz)

  • Infused with Argan oil, keratin, & grape seed oil
  • Deeply cleanses while restoring, protecting, & nourishing hair
  • Revives shine
  • Protects colour

What do I think?

  • Smells okay
  • Pump dispenser is convenient
  • I have a lot of hair, so I need two pumps of shampoo to get enough lather – maybe that’s why the shampoo bottle is so much bigger than the conditioner bottle

Conditioner (400 mL/13.5 fluid oz)

  • Infused with Argan oil, keratin, & grape seed oil
  • Deeply penetrates to hydrate, restore strength, & add high luster
  • Improves manageability
  • Protects colour

What do I think?

  • Smells weird
  • Flip top lid is convenient
  • Thick conditioner takes longer to work through all of my hair
  • My hair seems to get greasy around the crown sooner (ie, by the next morning)

Infused with ultra-light Mediterranean olive oil ancestral beauty secret Vitamin E Shea butter Costco

Treatment (50 mL/1.69 fluid oz)

  • Infused with ultra-light Mediterranean olive oil & Argan oil – the ancestral beauty secret of Morocco
  • Deeply penetrates to strengthen, protect, & condition
  • Vitamin E & Shea butter hydrate & soften
  • For all hair types
  • Lightweight formula won’t leave a residue
  • Apply 1 to 3 drops (depending on hair length & thickness) to damp or dry hair & distribute evenly from root to ends. Do not rinse out
  • For extra dry, damaged hair, apply 2 to 4 drops to dry hair at night before bedtime

What do I think?

  • Smells quite pleasant – I think it might be the Shea butter
  • I like having this adorable little brown bottle on my bathroom counter
  • A little goes a long way. I thought I would have to use more drops than instructed because I have a lot of hair, but I haven’t had to
  • It feels neat on my hands when I’m applying it to my hair, so I figure my hands benefit too

Would I buy these products again?

I would not buy the shampoo or conditioner again, for 3 reasons:

  • My colour-treated hair seems to be a tiny bit darker now (could be my imagination) – maybe that’s because it’s healthier? But since I put out the time and money to get my hair touched up every 5 weeks, I don’t want healthier hair if it’s interfering with my colour! I finally found a great hairdresser named Michelle who does my hair exactly the way I want it!
  • I have heavy hair, so volume is more important to me than shine. I’ll slink back to John Frieda with my tail between my legs when I run out of Marc Anthony.
  • Nice-smelling shampoo and conditioner is one of the best parts about washing your hair! So these products were a disappointment in that area.

I would probably buy the treatment again, for 2 reasons:

  • It smells good, looks nice on my bathroom counter, and feels good to my hands, so I feel like I’m doing something extra to pamper myself, which makes me happy.
  • It helps to smooth out dry split ends. I recently woke up with dry and damaged-feeling ends after using copious amounts of curling spritz before attending a wedding the day before. No problem! I just reached for my little brown bottle and voila!

Have you tried Argan oil? What do you think?
